Did You Know…

The Springfield Shopper has been changing prices on nearly a day-to-day basis, going from 35 cents to free and back to 35 cents again, then up to 50 cents for a time, and then, lo and behold, becoming free again, only to undergo a 35 cent increase in the price not a week later. Even more interesting is that in the instance when they do charge for the Shopper, it remained at 35 cents for every issue from 1989 until 1997. Then, it abruptly jumped to 50 cents - that is, when they decided to charge for it.

Do The Simpsons exist in a world where, like their physical growth, inflation is non-existent or incredibly stunted? Can a dying format really subsist on a free, 35 cent or even 50 cent price? Does the price of the Shopper co-ordinate with some type of Satanic ritual practiced exclusively by The Simpsons’ staff writers? Don’t worry, friends, I’ll get to the bottom of this.
